Volvo XC70 (incl. V70 XC) key fob battery

Every model year listed for the Volvo XC70 (incl. V70 XC) has a proven battery. The most common answer is CR2032. Rows below run oldest to newest; a year can appear twice when the car came with more than one kind of key.

Changing the battery

Separate remote fob

  1. A separate fob has no key blade inside, so it opens with nothing but a coin or a small screwdriver.
  2. Find the slot along the edge and turn a coin in it. Go slowly so the clips do not snap.
  3. Lift the old coin cell out and press the new one in with matching orientation.
  4. Snap the case shut and watch for the lights to flash when you press lock at the car.

A CR2032 is 20 mm across and 3.2 mm thick. CR2032, CR2025 and CR2016 share the same width but not the same thickness, so a swap between them can leave a loose contact or a case that will not close.

Flip key

  1. Open the flip blade. Never force the hinge sideways, since the spring and pin are the weak part of a flip key.
  2. Find the seam or small slot on the body (often at the end away from the blade) and twist a coin or small flat screwdriver in it until the cover lifts.
  3. Take out the old cell, noting which side faced you, and fit the new one the same way.
  4. Press the halves together until no gap shows, then try every button.

If a child might have swallowed a coin cell, treat it as an emergency and get to a hospital right away.
