Jaguar S-Type key fob battery

5 of the 9 model years listed for the Jaguar S-Type have a proven battery. The most common answer is CR2032. Rows below run oldest to newest; a year can appear twice when the car came with more than one kind of key.

Changing the battery

Separate remote fob

  1. A separate fob has no key blade inside, so it opens with nothing but a coin or a small screwdriver.
  2. Find the slot along the edge and turn a coin in it. Go slowly so the clips do not snap.
  3. Swap the cell or cells, keeping the same side up as the old ones.
  4. Close the fob and test it. If it does not work, open it again and check the cell is seated flat.

A CR2032 is 20 mm across and 3.2 mm thick. CR2032, CR2025 and CR2016 share the same width but not the same thickness, so a swap between them can leave a loose contact or a case that will not close.

Flip key

  1. Swing the key blade open first. On most flip keys the cell lives in the body behind the hinge.
  2. Look along the edge for a notch. A coin turned in that notch usually separates the remote half from the blade half.
  3. Swap the coin cell, keeping the same face up as the one you removed, and do not bend the metal contact tab.
  4. Clip the body closed, fold the blade, and test the buttons from a few steps away.

If a child might have swallowed a coin cell, treat it as an emergency and get to a hospital right away.
